Why Every Traveller Needs Packing Cubes

From the year 2014 I have been reading about the wonders of packing cubes. In every list of ‘things that travellers must own’ there was a mention of these packing cubes. Backpackers, suitcase travellers and even travellers like my husband who can literally survive on nothing raved about this. I always wanted to own a set for myself and see the difference it brings upon my travels. I found my one-stop-shop at Bagail.com.

What are packing cubes?

It’s completely okay if you are still not aware of the existence of these products. Rewind a few years and I was in your shoes. Packing cubes are cube or cuboid shaped zippered containers which comes in different sizes and are generally used to pack in clothes while travelling. They are redefining packing style and in a few years they would be considered an absolute necessity while travelling.

Why We Love Bagail Packing Cubes

Fabric – We hate it when brands don’t deliver the quality they promised customers. However, no need to worry about any such cheating with Bagail. The cubes are made of quality fabric which can endure the uncertainty of our travels. The threads are well stitched and hold the product in shape properly.

Durability – We do not recommend any product unless it is expected to last a few years if not a lifetime. Given the solid structure of Bagail packing cubes we presume it to last atleast a few years, no matter how careless a traveller we are!

Good Zipper – The first thing that crosses our mind while buying a zippered product are the terrible zipper problems. Broken zipper, stuck zipper, broken slider and what not. The zippers in Bagail packing cubes come without any of these problems. It moves smoothly and we are exempted from breaking our fingers trying to solve zipper problems!

Sizes – The three different sizes of the Baigail packing cubes allows us to better organise our stuff.  It ensures no space is wasted. They fit in easily in backpacks, suitcases, duffel bags and even in handbags.

Proper Ventilation– Do we like living in an airless box? No. Neither does our clothes. So we were really happy to learn the Bagail packing cubes has a mesh top panel for proper ventilation which will allow our clothes to breathe. Also identifications of the contents become easier with the mesh top panel.

Colours– The husband may find colours unimportant but I have an affinity towards colourful products. The Bagail packing cubes are available in bright shades of fuchsia, purple, pink, blue, dark blue, burgundy, gray and black. I am debating on which one I liked the best!

Bring order in your luggage

How to use Packing Cubes while Travelling

Family Trip Categorization – If you are going on a family trip, you can use the three different cubes to pack clothes of three different family members. No time will be wasted in searching for clothes. No matter how long you travel or how many times your luggage gets mishandled, things will never be messed up in the luggage with the packing cubes in place.

Cloth Categorization – Keep all your jeans/trousers in one cube, pack your t-shirts / shirts / tops in another and use the third one to stuff in the socks and undies. That’s what I call clean packing!

The Used Clothes vs Fresh Clothes Categorization – If you hate dumping the stained, dirty clothes with the fresh ones in your luggage then packing cubes may just solve this problem for you. Heap all your used clothes in one of the cubes to keep them separate from the fresh clothes.

Get Rid Of Excess Baggage Charge While Flying

How you ask? When the person at the airport informs that your luggage has crossed the maximum weight limit you don’t panic, you don’t unpack, you don’t mess up, you don’t leave anything at the airport, and you don’t pay the excess baggage charge. Instead you simply take one or two cubes out of the luggage and use it as your carry-on!

Packing cubes are the best things ever! We have them in different colors for each member of our family and it makes finding our things so much easier. Not to mention, just shoving the entire cube into a hotel drawer and not having to actually unpack. Great post!

We are HUGE fans of packing cubes! Especially if you’re traveling out of a backpack! They make things so much easier. I even purchased smaller cubes just for electronics and cords too. It’s been an organization dream!

I completely agree with everything you say in this article! I don’t know how I coped before packing cubes! And its so try about getting good quality ones. I have two sets a very cheap set and a good quality set. The good quality set saves me so much room as I can really cram in my clothes so I can fit more into my backpack. If I tried to do that with the other set the zip would just bust haha.

OMG I didn’t know such thing existed to be honest, my last trip I actually got two laundry bags with me to gather my clothes in and for it to be easier to constantly pack and unpack but this is terrific! Absolutely getting it for my next trip, thanks!!

I have never thought about using packing cubes but after reading your post, I think I might change my mind. What a great idea they are. I usually just put everything in together and then I am always unable to find anything. I also like the idea of being able to take it out and take it as hand luggage if your bag is over the limit

In most of my trips I end up not wearing half of the clothes that I carry, the sole reason being: I can’t find them on time! With packing cubes, that problem is definitely solved.

I’m also a huge fan of packing cubes! My pack just opens from the top, so if I didn’t have packing cubes I would have to pull everything out of it to get to one thing. I separate mine by tops/bottoms, undies and swimwear and lesser-worn items. Then I have a compression sack for my dirty clothes so I can squish them down to nothing so they don’t take up much room in my pack before doing laundry!

I didn’t hear about packing cubes before last year. It is such a great concept and it really makes packing so much easier, and avoid a nightmare if you overpacked. Thank you so much for this info and the recommendation 😀

I pack so very neatly when I venture out but 24 hours into the trip and the backpack becomes a massacre! Packing cubes can save this situation and also the time we waste searching for stuffs while unpacking!

Everyone seems to have packing cubes but me, haha. I’m definitely going to get some before my next trip, I always struggle with organizing everything in my luggage. I never thought about the weight limit tip. Great post, I’m convinced!

Okay, I definitely need to get into the packing cube game. I always seem them recommended and make a mental note to order some, and then my trip comes and I’m rolling and stuffing instead of being organized! I love that you guys are recommending a brand you’ve actually been using for years instead of just picking one at random!

I’m obsessed with packing cubes! I used to be such a messy packer, now everything is so organized. I don’t usually pack used clothes back to the cube, but I think it is a great idea. I just need to buy different colour cubes to keep track!

They are brilliant for fitting in small clothing. Although I have never tried using the cubes to fit in cables, I always tend to stuff those in side pockets of bags and suitcases. Will try packing cubes to fit them in next time.

Packing cubes are awesome! It helps me organize my stuff better. When I did not use this before, my clothing, accessories, and so on were a mess. I started using it a few years ago when I was looking for a solution to sort my travel essentials better. Since then, I have recommended packing cubes to my loved ones. I would check out the brand that you have featured. The design looks nice. I like your last tip that I can just use it as a carry-on if my suitcase has exceeded the baggage allowance. It is a brilliant idea.

Yes once I have used packing cubes I can hardly ever let the habit go. Recently I almost crossed the limit of minimum weight allowed: the machine read 49.9kg and we had 50kg limit. Gulp. Packing cubes can help us get over it!

I usually separate my clothes and other things with transparent zip bags but these ones are so much better!

These are everywhere at the minute and to be honest I didn’t see the need for them. After reading this, I do see that they’d be useful for keeping dirty clothes and toiletries separate from my clean clothes!

Hi Tania: I’ve resisted packing cubes as it’s just not my style. But your last point was the ringer for me. I love the idea of just being able to remove a cube or two at the airport if the larger case is overweight.

So far, I made my own packing cubes with the cloth bags that you get and pretty much for the reasons cited here. Easy categorization , quick reduction of load etc. I might consider these if they are not too expensive. Will hop over and take a look.

OMG I could not agree more! For years I avoided them because I thought they added unnecessary space but they are a total lifesaver. I especially love using them while backpacking. It makes SUCH a difference! Thanks for sharing

I have not seen these personally, however, I remember reading about it on another blog sometime back. I can see that the cubes are great in having all your stuff organised. I think this helps in easy retrieval too, maybe will give it a try on our next long trip.

I too personally prefer using packing cubes for organizing my clothes and accessories while traveling. They are super helpful and importantly avoids one juggling through the whole stuff. But never tried the ones from Bagail.com. Good to know they have color options and these come with all the mentioned features. I have a question- How are they priced and do they come in sets?

    • Tania Mukherjee says:

It depends on the person using them, for me the dis-utility generated by the added weight was more than offset by the utility I got out of it! For a person like my husband who don’t mind a messy bag or carries too little to make a mess these could be added weight!
